The next major Steam sale for India is the Autumn Sale, October 1 to 8, going live 10:30 PM IST. The Summer Sale ended July 9, and the deepest discounts of the year arrive with the Winter Sale, December 17 to January 4. Every date on this page comes from Valve’s own published calendar, with themed fests filling the gaps almost weekly until then.

Key facts

  • Next major sale: Steam Autumn Sale, October 1 to 8, starting 10:30 PM IST. Next event of any kind: themed fests run almost weekly, full table below
  • The Summer Sale ended July 9. The Winter Sale runs December 17 to January 4, the year’s longest and deepest
  • All dates are from Valve’s official published calendar, not predictions. Valve announces its calendar about half a year ahead
  • Steam takes UPI in India since mid 2025, and discounts apply to Indian regional prices
  • A Valve pricing change in March 2026 makes INR price RISES more likely than cuts on some games, waiting is not automatically cheaper anymore. Details below

If you missed the Summer Sale, which ended July 9, the question is what comes next and whether to wait for it. The answer is unusually easy to give this year, because Valve now publishes its full sale calendar in advance: every date below is official, and the two that matter most are October 1 and December 17.

This page keeps the whole 2026 calendar in one place with Indian start times, the honest read on which sales cut deepest, how to pay from India, and one 2026 twist most gamers have not priced in: a Valve pricing change this March means waiting can now cost you money on some games, not save it.

The next major sale: Steam Autumn Sale, October 1 to 8

The Autumn Sale is the next time the whole Steam catalog goes on discount at once. Valve publishes its full sale calendar in advance now, so these dates are official, not predicted: October 1 to 8, going live at 10 AM Pacific, which is 10:30 PM IST on the same evening for India. It is a one week storewide event, historically a touch shallower than Summer and Winter on the biggest titles but still the real thing.

Between now and then, Steam runs only themed fests: Train Fest from July 20, Cyberpunk Fest in early August, a survival crafting fest at the end of August, and a handful of others. Those discount only their genre, and usually less deeply than seasonal sales. If your wishlist is varied, October 1 is the date that matters.

The big one: Steam Winter Sale, December 17 to January 4

Winter is where patience pays most. It runs 19 days from December 17 to January 4, ties Summer for the deepest discounts of the year, and it is where this year’s big releases usually take their first meaningful cut. Older titles routinely hit 80 to 95 percent off, which at Indian regional prices means hundreds of games under a few hundred rupees.

One mechanic worth knowing because it kills a common myth: since 2015 there are no flash deals or daily rotations. The discount you see on day one is the discount on day nineteen. There is zero advantage to hovering, buy on the last day if you like, the only risk is forgetting. Note the India start time shifts an hour in winter: 11:30 PM IST, because the US moves off daylight saving in November.

Do it, hold for December, for this year’s releases and anything expensive. If a game costs more than ₹2,000 today, Winter is almost always its cheapest 2026 moment.
Skip it the December wait for cheap backlog games. A ₹299 game at 90 percent off in October versus December is a difference of pennies, buy it in Autumn and start playing.

Cannot wait until October? The key stores are the middle path

Between Valve’s sales there is a legitimate middle path: publisher authorized key stores that sell official Steam keys below sticker. The trustworthy ones are genuinely useful for new releases, the shady ones sell revoked keys, and telling them apart is exactly what our store by store keys guide is for, including which ones take UPI and which region locks bite Indian accounts.

The honest comparison: key store discounts on big new games usually sit in the 10 to 40 percent band, deeper than Steam between sales, shallower than what Winter will eventually offer. So the decision is time versus money, and for a game you will play two hundred hours starting this weekend, paying 15 percent over the eventual Winter price is a fine trade.

What they are: Stores selling official Steam keys below Steam price Typical saving: 10 to 40 percent off Steam’s INR price between sales The safe list: Covered store by store in our keys guide, with the risky ones flagged Payment: Most accept UPI and Indian cards The catch: Region locks, check every key says it activates in India Best use: New releases you refuse to wait 3 months for

Do it for new releases you want now: pick a store from the safe list and confirm the key activates in India before paying.
Skip it it for older games. Steam’s own seasonal discounts on the back catalog are usually deeper than any key store, with no key risk at all.

Buy now or wait? The 2026 answer is different

The old rule was simple: waiting for a seasonal sale always won. In 2026 there is a real counterweight. In late March, Valve updated its regional pricing tools, giving publishers a choice of three pricing methods across 37 currencies, two of them new, including a pure exchange rate option. With the rupee having touched 95 to the dollar, publishers who adopt exchange rate pricing will set INR prices higher than the old purchasing power recommendations, not lower. Several big publishers were already pricing INR near exchange rate parity before the change, so the direction of pressure is not theoretical.

What that means practically: the discount percentage in October operates on whatever the base price is by October. A game at ₹1,499 today that gets repriced to ₹1,999 and then given a typical 20 percent first discount costs you ₹1,599, more than today’s full price. And Valve’s own rules add a twist that favors buying early: a price increase locks the game out of discounts for 30 days, so publishers reprice well before sales, not during them. Nobody can predict which games reprice, so the sane rules are: for old catalog titles, waiting still wins, their prices rarely move. For big new releases you definitely want, the risk now cuts both ways, and a good key store price today can beat a hypothetical October discount on a repriced base.

Between sales, the legit key stores are the only pricing lever an Indian buyer has, and the difference between the safe ones and the scam ones is the whole game.

Paying on Steam from India: UPI, cards and wallet codes

Steam added native UPI payments for India in mid 2025, so Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and any UPI app now work directly at checkout via QR code or your UPI ID. It sits alongside Indian cards and net banking, and it ended years of workarounds for card less buyers.

Two useful leftovers from the workaround era. INR Steam Wallet codes still exist at Indian retailers and make good gift money or a budgeting cap for younger players. And if a card fails on Steam, it is usually the bank’s international transaction toggle, even though Steam bills in rupees, flipping on international usage in your banking app fixes it more often than anything Steam side.

Six rules for buying smart in any Steam sale

  • Wishlist everything you might want, today. Steam emails you when a wishlisted game goes on sale, which outsources the whole calendar to Valve
  • Discounts are fixed for the entire sale, no flash deals have existed since 2015. Buying on day one and day last costs the same, so never panic buy
  • Check the price history before believing a discount. SteamDB shows every game’s lowest ever price, and a 50 percent tag on a recently repriced base can be worse than last year’s 40
  • Older games discount deepest, 80 to 95 percent. New releases rarely pass 10 to 20 percent in their first sale, patience pays double digits on them
  • Fests are real discounts but only for their genre, treat them as bonus rounds between the seasonal sales
  • Refund rule stays live in sales: under 2 hours played and within 14 days, you can refund and rebuy at a better price if you jumped early

How we keep this page current

Every date comes from Valve’s official Steamworks calendar announcements, screenshotted above, not from prediction or precedent. The IST conversions account for the US daylight saving shift in November, which is why Autumn starts at 10:30 PM IST and Winter at 11:30 PM IST. Payment and pricing details were checked against Steam’s India storefront and Valve’s March 2026 pricing announcement.

This page gets refreshed within days of each seasonal sale ending, and when Valve publishes the 2027 first half calendar, expected around mid year based on their pattern, the table extends the same week.

Some links on this page may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Steam itself pays no commission to anyone, which is one reason so many sale pages push key stores harder than they deserve. Ours tells you when the key store is the wrong choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the next Steam sale in India?

The next major storewide sale is the Steam Autumn Sale, October 1 to 8, 2026, going live at 10:30 PM IST on October 1. Themed fests run almost weekly before that, Train Fest starts July 20, but those discount only their genre. The dates are from Valve’s official published calendar.

What time do Steam sales start in India?

Seasonal sales go live at 10 AM Pacific. For India that is 10:30 PM IST on the same day through October, and 11:30 PM IST for the Winter Sale in December, because US clocks shift off daylight saving in November.

Which Steam sale has the biggest discounts?

Summer and Winter tie for the deepest cuts, and Winter is the longest at 19 days, December 17 to January 4 this year. Autumn and Spring are storewide but historically a step shallower on the biggest titles. Older games hit 80 to 95 percent off in the big two.

Did I just miss a Steam sale?

Yes, the Summer Sale ran June 25 to July 9, 2026. If you missed it, the catalog wide discounts return October 1. Between now and then only themed fests run, and the refund rule means anything you bought in the last 14 days under 2 hours of play can still be returned.

Are Steam fest discounts as good as seasonal sale discounts?

Usually not. Fests cover one genre and publishers tend to discount less deeply than in the four seasonal sales. Treat fests as bonus rounds: real savings if your wishlist happens to match the theme, not worth structuring purchases around.

Does Steam accept UPI in India?

Yes. Steam added native UPI support for India in mid 2025, so Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and any UPI app work at checkout via QR or UPI ID. Indian cards and net banking also work, and INR Steam Wallet codes from Indian retailers remain an alternative.

Should I buy now or wait for the Autumn Sale?

For older catalog games, wait, their discounts are deep and their base prices stable. For big new releases there is a 2026 twist: Valve’s March pricing update lets publishers reprice INR upward, so a repriced base can eat the sale discount. If you want a new game now, a legit key store price today can beat that gamble.

Do Steam sale discounts change during the sale?

No. Flash deals and daily rotations were retired in 2015. The discount at the start is the discount at the end, so there is no advantage to buying early in a sale, and no penalty for deciding on the final day.

Is it cheaper to buy from key stores than Steam sales?

Between sales, often yes, legit key stores run 10 to 40 percent under Steam on new games. During Summer or Winter, Steam’s own catalog discounts usually win, especially on older titles. The real risk with key stores is choosing a bad one, which is what our keys guide covers store by store.

When will the 2027 Steam sale dates be announced?

Valve has been publishing calendars roughly half a year ahead: the second half of 2026 was announced in January 2026. Expect the first half of 2027, including the Spring and Summer sale dates, around the middle of 2026 going by that pattern, and this page will add them the week they land.
