Most key store reviews answer the wrong question. Fanatical’s legitimacy is not actually in doubt, it is a publisher authorized reseller sourcing keys under direct agreements, which puts it in a different category from every gray market and marketplace site we cover. The real Indian questions are the other two: what does buying in dollars actually cost you here, and given Steam India’s regional pricing, when is Fanatical worth opening at all?

Why Fanatical is the safe pole of the key market
Fanatical started life as Bundle Stars, took the Fanatical name on November 1, 2017, and has been owned by Fandom since 2021. Its inventory model is the entire pitch: keys are sourced directly from more than 1,800 publishers and developers under agreements, not bought sideways from other regions or from resellers. That is what publisher authorized means in practice, and it is why revoked keys are essentially absent from its record where they are a running theme everywhere else.
The complaint file is real but different in kind. Around its 4.7 Trustpilot average across roughly 83,000 reviews, the recurring grievances are orders cancelled at checkout without explanation, accounts locked pending manual review, and payment declines that read as territory blocks, an Indian buyer documented an order cancellation loop trying to buy The Division 2 here. Frustrating, occasionally unresolved for weeks, and categorically not fraud: nobody is out money for a dead key, they are locked out of giving the store money.
The legitimacy spectrum: where this store sits
Every key site question comes down to one axis: who are you actually buying from. Publisher authorized stores sell keys the publisher gave them. First party gray stores buy keys cheap in other regions and resell them on their own account. Marketplaces let anyone sell to you with the platform as referee. Fanatical in India: the billing catch
Fanatical greets Indian visitors with an offer to display approximate rupees, and the word approximate is doing honest work. We loaded it from an Indian connection in July 2026: prices render in US dollars, with a banner asking whether you would like to see approximate Indian Rupee instead. India falls into Fanatical’s Rest of World bucket, so the actual charge is in USD, your bank picks the conversion, adds its 2 to 3.5 percent forex markup, and GST lands on that fee. No UPI exists here, Indian community threads literally show people asking strangers with international cards to make purchases for them. And a small number of keys carry region restrictions, which is what the country restriction dropdown on every product page is for. Two seconds checking India there saves a support ticket later.
Bundles: the actual reason Indians should care
Fanatical’s discounts are real discounts, which is exactly why the comparison has to be done properly. They are struck against US and EU list prices, and Steam India already runs its own cheaper regional pricing: Elden Ring is ₹3,599 here against 59.99 dollars in the US. So an impressive 47 percent off a Western price can land within 10 to 15 percent of the Steam India price, and a safe store selling you a discount that is not a discount is still selling you a discount that is not a discount. Bundles are where Fanatical breaks this rule, and they are the reason to be here.
Indian buyers say it themselves in the threads: discounts computed from US prices are useless here eight times out of ten, and Fanatical is the occasional exception. The exception has a name, bundles. Curated packs and build your own bundles routinely hand over several games for less than Steam India charges for one of them, Dark Souls games via a bundle is the community’s cited example, and one buyer documented a case where even a full price purchase beat Indian pricing after forex. Old AAA and DLC during its publisher sales are the second lane. New releases are not the lane, and pretending otherwise is what the sites with bigger affiliate ambitions do.
