20 Best Free Multiplayer Games for PC (2026)

TACTICAL FPS

1. Valorant

Developer: Riot Games | Genre: Tactical FPS | Size: ~25 GB | Launcher: Riot Games (NOT Steam)

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 or AMD Ryzen 3 3300U
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 25 GB
  • Graphics: Intel HD 4000 (30 FPS) / GTX 1050 Ti (60 FPS)

Valorant is Riot Games’ free 5v5 tactical FPS, and it is the most-played competitive PC game in India right now. Counter-terrorists plant and defuse spike. Agents have unique abilities but gunplay is the core. A well-placed Vandal shot beats any ability. Ranked mode starts after 10 unrated games and has a dedicated Indian server so ping stays under 30ms for most cities.

Pay-to-win status: zero. Every agent can be unlocked through contracts and free battle pass tiers. Skins cost money but change nothing about bullet performance. This is one of the cleanest free-to-play models in gaming.

For low-end PCs: Valorant runs on Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics at 720p low settings, targeting 40-55 FPS. Turn off all shadows, set render quality to 50%, and disable bloom. On a GTX 1050 Ti at 1080p low you can hit 90-120 FPS consistently. It is one of very few AAA multiplayer games that actively targets budget hardware.

2. Counter-Strike 2

Developer: Valve | Genre: Tactical FPS | Size: ~35 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-7400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 35 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 970 / RX 570 (recommended for 1080p 60+)

CS2 replaced CS:GO as the definitive competitive FPS on PC. Valve rebuilt the engine with Source 2, added dynamic smokes that react to bullets, and updated every map. The skill ceiling here is brutal and the India server pool for Premier mode is strong. If you grind ranked, you will play against some of the sharpest aim in the country.

Pay-to-win status: none. Skins are cosmetic only. The Prime account upgrade (one-time Rs 1,100) gives better matchmaking and CS2 coins, but free accounts can still play competitive. Most Indian players skip Prime and use third-party platforms like Faceit instead. One warning: VAC bans are permanent. Do not cheat, even in casual. Valve has zero tolerance and your entire Steam account can get flagged.

For low-end PCs: CS2 needs at least a GTX 1060 for stable 60 FPS at 1080p. On Intel UHD 620 at 720p lowest settings you can get 40-55 FPS but expect drops in smokes and on large maps like Overpass. CS2 is noticeably heavier than CS:GO was. If your laptop runs hot or has 4GB RAM, consider CS 1.6 instead.

3. Counter-Strike 1.6

Developer: Valve | Genre: Tactical FPS | Size: ~500 MB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/10/11
  • CPU: Pentium 4 or equivalent
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Storage: 500 MB
  • Graphics: Any DirectX 8 GPU

CS 1.6 is the king of Indian cybercafes and it is still alive in 2026. This game runs at 120+ FPS on anything made after 2005. 500 MB install. You can download it on a 4G hotspot in under 3 minutes. Community servers in India are still active, particularly in Delhi, Pune, and Chennai. If you have 10 friends, set up a LAN match and it will feel like 2009 again.

There is no pay-to-win element because there is essentially no modern monetization. The base game has been free on Steam for years. The skill gap is enormous if you want to get competitive but the game is immediately playable at any level.

For low-end PCs: This is the ultimate option. Any PC with a working display can run CS 1.6. Intel Atom, old Core 2 Duo, integrated graphics from 2010 — all fine. If your machine cannot run CS 1.6, it cannot run any game on this list.

BATTLE ROYALE / HERO SHOOTER

4. Fortnite

Developer: Epic Games | Genre: Battle Royale | Size: ~35 GB | Launcher: Epic Games (NOT Steam)

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-7300U or AMD Ryzen 3 3300U
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 35 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 960 recommended / GTX 980 for 60 FPS at 1080p

Fortnite is the biggest free battle royale on PC globally and it is not on Steam. You need the Epic Games launcher. The game has evolved well past the basic build-and-shoot format with multiple modes including Zero Build (no building mechanics), ranked play, creative maps, and LEGO Fortnite as a survival mode. A full squad of 4 can drop together for free.

Pay-to-win status: none. V-Bucks buy cosmetics, emotes, and the battle pass. Zero gameplay advantage. The battle pass costs money but everything you need to be competitive is in the base game. Cross-platform play is on by default so PC players match with console players too.

For low-end PCs: Fortnite is harder to run than Valorant. Intel UHD integrated graphics will struggle below 30 FPS. You need at least a GTX 1050 to get playable performance at 720p low. If your machine cannot run Fortnite, go to Zero Build mode and set performance rendering mode — it cuts visual quality drastically but can push framerates up on older hardware.

5. Apex Legends

Developer: Respawn / EA | Genre: Battle Royale | Size: ~75 GB | Launcher: EA App (NOT Steam)

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 75 GB (flag: very large)
  • Graphics: GTX 970 / RX 470

Apex Legends is one of the best-designed free battle royales available. Movement mechanics are the best in the genre — bunny hopping, slide cancels, wall jumps. Each legend has unique abilities and the ping communication system is so good that you can play well without a mic. The game moved from Steam to the EA App exclusively, so you need a free EA account to play.

Pay-to-win status: none. Heirlooms, skins, and legend unlocks through the store are all cosmetic. New legends can be unlocked through in-game currency earned by playing. No weapon advantages through purchases.

For low-end PCs: 75 GB is the biggest download on this list. On a 100 Mbps connection that is roughly 100 minutes. Storage-wise, make sure you have space. Performance-wise, you need a GTX 970 minimum for a smooth experience. Intel UHD will not handle this game — look at Valorant or CS2 instead. For a detailed comparison, best games for PC without a graphics card covers what integrated graphics can actually handle.

6. PUBG: Battlegrounds

Developer: Krafton | Genre: Battle Royale | Size: ~30 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD FX-6300
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 30 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 1060 / RX 580

PUBG Battlegrounds went free to play on Steam in January 2022 and remains free in 2026. This is the original PC battle royale that started the BGMI craze. 100 players, Erangel, Miramar, Sanhok — the maps are iconic. The gunplay is slower and more realistic than Fortnite or Apex, which appeals to a specific kind of player.

Pay-to-win status: mostly no. The base free version gives full access to all maps and modes except Ranked, which requires the Battlegrounds Plus upgrade (one-time Rs 1,100 roughly). If you want casual play with friends, the free version is completely functional. Ranked requires the upgrade.

For low-end PCs: PUBG is not a light game. GTX 1060 is the realistic minimum for stable play. Lower-end machines will hit stutters, especially in the early drop phase with many players loading in. If you are on integrated graphics, this is not the right choice.

7. Fall Guys

Developer: Mediatonic / Epic | Genre: Party Battle Royale | Size: ~17 GB | Launcher: Steam / Epic

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-7600K or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 17 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 660 / RX 5500 XT (recommended)

Fall Guys is chaotic, colourful, and fun in a group. Up to 60 players compete across obstacle courses and mini-games until one remains. No shooting, no aim skill required — just reactions, positioning, and a bit of luck. Became free to play in 2022 and moved to Epic but still available through Steam. Good for groups of friends who want something light after a long session of Valorant.

Pay-to-win status: none. Cosmetics only. You can earn in-game currency through seasonal challenges without paying. The game is generous with free skins compared to most live service titles.

For low-end PCs: A GTX 660 can handle this at 1080p low settings. On a GTX 1050 Ti you can run 1080p medium at 60 FPS. Fall Guys is not CPU-heavy so older i5 laptops handle it fine. Intel UHD will struggle though — target 720p and lowest settings if you are on integrated graphics.

8. Paladins

Developer: Hi-Rez Studios | Genre: Hero Shooter | Size: ~30 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-750 or AMD Phenom II X4
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 30 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 750 Ti / R9 270

Paladins is Hi-Rez’s free hero shooter and the best Overwatch alternative if you want something that runs on older hardware. 5v5 objective-based gameplay, 40+ champions with unique abilities, payload and siege modes. The champion roster covers every playstyle from front-line tanks to snipers to healers. Unlike Overwatch 2, every champion in Paladins is free to use in casual — you only need credits or gold for extra loadout cards.

Pay-to-win status: low. The card system was controversial years ago but Hi-Rez balanced it to reduce the gap. All champions are free for casual play. Ranked requires owning 16+ champions, which you unlock through gameplay currency over time.

For low-end PCs: Paladins targets medium-spec machines and succeeds. GTX 750 Ti runs it at 1080p medium comfortably. On Intel UHD 620, you can hit 40-60 FPS at 720p low. It is a better low-end choice than Overwatch 2 and still has active Indian servers.

MOBA / STRATEGY

9. Dota 2

Developer: Valve | Genre: MOBA | Size: ~25 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 25 GB
  • Graphics: Intel HD 4000 / Nvidia 8600M GT

Dota 2 is the deepest competitive game on this entire list. 5v5 MOBA on a single map with 120+ heroes, each with 4 abilities, hundreds of items, and enough strategic depth to sustain a professional career. India has a legitimate Dota 2 pro scene with teams competing in regional qualifiers. The TI (The International) prize pool has historically exceeded $40 million USD, all funded by player cosmetic purchases.

Pay-to-win status: zero. Every hero is free. Every game mode is free. Cosmetics are purely visual. This is one of the purest free-to-play models in gaming alongside Warframe.

For low-end PCs: Dota 2 runs on Intel HD 4000 at low settings targeting 40-60 FPS. The game was built to scale down to budget hardware. If Valorant runs on your machine, Dota 2 will too. Learning the game takes weeks but the hardware barrier is low.

10. Brawlhalla

Developer: Blue Mammoth Games | Genre: Platform Fighter | Size: ~500 MB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: ~500 MB
  • Graphics: Intel HD 3000 or equivalent

Brawlhalla is the best free platform fighter on PC. Think Super Smash Bros but free, online, and with an active ranked ladder. 50+ legends, each wielding two weapons from a shared pool of 14 weapon types. The ranked 1v1 and 2v2 modes are clean and competitive. Ubisoft acquired the studio and added crossover characters from One Piece, WWE, Naruto, and others but none of that affects gameplay balance.

Pay-to-win status: zero. All legends are available on a free weekly rotation of 8 and you earn in-game gold to permanently unlock your favourites. Skins are paid only and purely cosmetic.

For low-end PCs: Brawlhalla runs at full 60 FPS on Intel HD 3000 from 2012. This is probably the most accessible competitive game on this list from a hardware standpoint. At 500 MB, it downloads in under 5 minutes on a 4G hotspot. Check our Best Multiplayer Games Under 5GB for more games in this size range.

CO-OP / SURVIVAL

11. Warframe

Developer: Digital Extremes | Genre: Sci-Fi Co-op Shooter | Size: ~15 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 15 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 660 / Intel HD 4000 (minimum)

Warframe is a free co-op third-person shooter where you play as space ninjas in biomechanical suits. Up to 4 players run missions, farm resources, and build increasingly powerful Warframes. The amount of free content here is staggering — 55+ Warframes, hundreds of weapons, open world zones, cinematic quests. Digital Extremes has been updating this game since 2013 and almost everything is earnable through gameplay.

Pay-to-win status: low. You can earn premium currency (Platinum) by trading items with other players — no real money needed. Everything except cosmetics and convenience items is farmable free. The trading economy makes this one of the most player-friendly free games in existence.

For low-end PCs: 15 GB install is reasonable. A GTX 660 handles 1080p medium at 45-60 FPS. On Intel HD 4000 at 720p low, you can get 30-45 FPS which is playable for co-op. The game also has a Dx10 mode for older hardware.

12. Crab Game

Developer: Dani | Genre: Party Game | Size: ~200 MB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i3 or equivalent
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 200 MB
  • Graphics: Intel HD 5000 or equivalent

Crab Game is a free 35-player party game made by solo developer Dani, inspired by the format of Squid Game. Multiple mini-games across rounds — red light green light, marble-style games, tug of war — and the last player standing wins. It is completely free, 200 MB, and runs on nearly any PC. Hostel groups of 8-10 people can set up a private lobby instantly.

Pay-to-win status: completely free, no purchases at all. The developer made this as a fun project and never monetized it. There are no cosmetics to buy, no battle pass, nothing. It is genuinely 100% free.

For low-end PCs: If your machine has Intel HD 5000 from 2013, this will run at full 60 FPS. At 200 MB you download it faster than loading a YouTube video. It is the perfect game for college hostel gaming sessions on weak laptops.

13. Among Us

Developer: Innersloth | Genre: Social Deduction | Size: ~250 MB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or equivalent
  • RAM: 1 GB
  • Storage: 250 MB
  • Graphics: Intel HD 3000

Among Us needs no introduction in India. 4-15 players on a spaceship, 1-3 of them are impostors trying to sabotage and kill without getting caught. The rest complete tasks and try to identify the impostors through voting. The base game on Steam is free. Custom cosmetics and the cosmicube content packs cost money but are not needed to play. The core game is completely playable without spending anything.

Pay-to-win status: none. Cosmetics only. Free players have full access to all maps, roles, and game modes. The paid content is entirely optional hats and colours.

For low-end PCs: 250 MB. Runs on Intel HD 3000. 1 GB RAM minimum. This is the most hardware-accessible game on this list after CS 1.6, Brawlhalla, and Crab Game. Anyone with a functioning PC from the last 10 years can play Among Us without issues.

MMO / OPEN WORLD

14. War Thunder

Developer: Gaijin Entertainment | Genre: Military Vehicles MMO | Size: ~50 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 50 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 660 Ti / RX 560

War Thunder is a free-to-play military vehicle combat game with over 2,000 aircraft, tanks, ships, and helicopters from World War II through to modern era. Multiple modes from arcade to realistic simulation. Matches put teams of up to 16 players against each other in vehicle combat. If you are into military history, no other free game comes close to this depth. Ground battles feel tactical and air battles are surprisingly smooth once you learn the controls.

Pay-to-win status: moderate concern. Premium vehicles and premium account time accelerate progression significantly. High-tier grinding without premium can feel slow. The game is absolutely playable free but you will feel the grind at higher battle ratings. The community calls this out regularly.

For low-end PCs: GTX 660 Ti handles War Thunder at medium settings. The game scales well on lower settings. 50 GB is a substantial download though — plan accordingly on a metered connection.

15. Destiny 2

Developer: Bungie | Genre: FPS MMO | Size: ~70 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 70 GB (flag: very large)
  • Graphics: GTX 970 / RX 480

Destiny 2 is a free-to-play FPS MMO with one of the best gunfeel in any shooter. The base game gives you access to the New Light campaign, core strikes, Crucible PvP, and Gambit PvEvP mode. Up to 3 players in co-op strikes, 6 in raids. The free content alone is dozens of hours. Paid expansions add campaigns and seasonal content but are not required to enjoy the core experience.

Pay-to-win status: low. PvP balance is maintained across gear tiers. Paid expansions unlock story content and some endgame activities but do not give weapon advantages in PvP. Seasonal content costs money but the base free rotation is substantial.

For low-end PCs: 70 GB is a big ask. This is a game for people who have a strong PC and strong internet. GTX 970 minimum. Intel UHD will not work. If storage and hardware are concerns, skip this and go with Warframe which offers a similar co-op experience at a fifth of the file size. Once you have the hardware, the investment is worth it.

16. Team Fortress 2

Developer: Valve | Genre: Team Shooter | Size: ~13 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-750 or equivalent
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 13 GB
  • Graphics: Intel HD 4000 / Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT

Team Fortress 2 has been free since 2011 and still has 50,000+ concurrent players in 2026. 9 distinct classes, each with a completely different playstyle. Capture the flag, payload, control points — the mode variety is still unmatched among free team shooters. Community servers in Asia add custom maps, game modes, and fun chaos that the base game does not have. If you want a casual team shooter without commitment to ranked progression, TF2 is perfect.

Pay-to-win status: low. Free accounts have item drop limits but you can still play every mode with every class. The Mann Co. store sells cosmetic items and some weapon variants but alternative unlock paths are free. The bot problem in casual matchmaking has improved with community server alternatives.

For low-end PCs: TF2 runs well on Intel HD 4000 at medium settings targeting 50-70 FPS. 13 GB is reasonable. The art style keeps the game light on GPU load even on high settings. Older i5 laptops from 2015 can run this smoothly.

17. Eve Online

Developer: CCP Games | Genre: Space MMO | Size: ~35 GB | Launcher: Steam / Eve Launcher

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 35 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 640 / AMD HD 7770

Eve Online is unlike anything else on this list. One persistent universe, thousands of players on the same server simultaneously, player-driven economy, corporation wars, and some of the most memorable large-scale battles in gaming history. The free Alpha account gives access to a substantial set of ships and skills. If you are patient and like spreadsheets alongside your spaceship combat, this game has no ceiling.

Pay-to-win status: moderate. Omega subscription unlocks all ships and faster skill training. Alpha accounts are limited but fully functional for casual play. The subscription is also earnable in-game through PLEX purchased with ISK (in-game currency), which you earn by playing. It takes time but is possible without spending money.

For low-end PCs: Eve runs on a GTX 640 minimum. It is not a fast-paced action game, so lower framerates are tolerable. The game is more about strategy than reaction time. 35 GB install is manageable.

CASUAL / INDIE FREE

18. Realm of the Mad God Exalt

Developer: DECA Games | Genre: Bullet Hell MMO | Size: ~500 MB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Storage: ~500 MB
  • Graphics: Intel HD 3000

Realm of the Mad God is a free bullet hell MMO that has been running since 2011. Top-down shooter, permadeath, dozens of character classes, and a world constantly filled with other players fighting the same enemies. The Exalt update modernised the visuals and added new content while keeping the core experience intact. It is unique — nothing else plays quite like this. At 500 MB it installs in minutes and runs on nearly any hardware.

Pay-to-win status: moderate. Premium currency (Gold) speeds up progression and unlocks character slots. Free players can still experience most content but will feel limits eventually. The game is old-school generous compared to modern mobile-style F2P games.

For low-end PCs: Intel HD 3000 handles this without issues. It is a 2D top-down game with simple rendering. The biggest performance factor is network latency not GPU power.

19. Muck

Developer: Dani | Genre: Survival Roguelite | Size: ~100 MB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/10/11
  • CPU: Any dual-core processor
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 100 MB
  • Graphics: Any dedicated GPU / Intel HD 4000

Muck is a free survival roguelite from the same developer who made Crab Game. Survive waves of enemies, collect resources, build tools, and get stronger across procedurally generated maps. Supports up to 5 players in co-op and takes about an hour to complete a full run. Made by Dani as a personal challenge game jam project and released free on Steam as a thank-you to his YouTube community. At 100 MB it is the smallest game on this list.

Pay-to-win status: completely free, no purchases, no monetization of any kind. Same as Crab Game — Dani made this as a free release and it has stayed that way.

For low-end PCs: 100 MB. Intel HD 4000. Any dual-core. This runs on laptops your parents bought in 2012. Perfect for late-night hostel sessions when everyone is on their college-issued machines.

20. Smite 2

Developer: Hi-Rez Studios | Genre: Action MOBA | Size: ~30 GB | Launcher: Steam

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-9400F or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: ~30 GB
  • Graphics: GTX 960 / RX 570

Smite 2 is Hi-Rez’s Unreal Engine 5 sequel to the original Smite, built as a full rebuild rather than an update. Third-person action MOBA where you play as gods from various mythologies — Greek, Hindu, Norse, Egyptian, and more. The third-person perspective is the key difference from Dota 2 or League of Legends. It feels more like an action game than a traditional point-click MOBA. Ganesh, Kali, Shiva, and several other Hindu gods are in the roster, which resonates with Indian players specifically.

Pay-to-win status: none. All gods rotate through a free weekly lineup and you earn currency to unlock them permanently through gameplay. Skins and cosmetics cost real money but do not affect balance in any mode.

For low-end PCs: Smite 2 is built on UE5 so minimum specs are higher than its predecessor. GTX 960 minimum. Budget laptops with Intel UHD will not run this at playable framerates. If you want a MOBA on low-end hardware, Dota 2 is the better choice. For players with a GTX 1060 or above, Smite 2 is a genuinely different experience worth trying.

Which Launcher Do You Need? Quick Setup Guide

A lot of Indian gamers setting up a new PC assume everything is on Steam. It is not. Here is the breakdown of what installs where.

GameLauncherDownload LinkLauncher Size
ValorantRiot Gamesplayvalorant.com~1 GB launcher
FortniteEpic Games Launcherepicgames.com~700 MB launcher
Apex LegendsEA Appea.com/ea-app~500 MB launcher
All othersSteamstore.steampowered.com~1.5 GB launcher

Why did these games leave Steam? Fortnite never came to Steam. Epic built its own launcher specifically to keep 30% revenue share away from Valve. Apex Legends was removed from Steam by EA in 2021 to push the EA App (formerly Origin). Riot Games built its own launcher because Valorant’s anti-cheat (Vanguard) needs kernel-level access on boot, which Steam does not support natively.

The practical takeaway: if you want to play all 20 games on this list, you need 4 launchers installed. Steam, Riot Games, Epic, and EA App. All four are free to download and create accounts on. Plan for roughly 5 GB of launcher overhead in addition to game sizes.

Free Multiplayer on a Budget Indian PC

Indian CS2 communities are active on Faceit and ESEA where ban systems are equally strict. Play clean. If your laptop gets hot during gaming, reduce resolution first, then turn off background apps and set Windows power plan to Balanced. Competitive games like Valorant have their own FPS cap settings — set a cap 10-15 FPS below your screen refresh rate to reduce heat without losing smoothness.
