Updated October 2026 with current Indian retail prices.
GTA 6 preload opens on Thursday 12 November 2026 for digital pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, a week before the 19 November launch. Rockstar hasn’t announced a preload start time. Both Indian stores list the game’s release as 12:00 AM IST on 19 November, and no download size has been published yet, so clear space early and switch on automatic downloads before 12 November.
Key facts

GTA 6 preload date and time in India
Official date · store times
Rockstar’s own words: “Players who pre-order digital versions of Grand Theft Auto VI will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026 to ensure they are able to play at launch on November 19, 2026” (Rockstar / Take-Two release). That’s a date, not a time.
Indian sites disagree on the unlock time: most say 12:00 AM IST, one says about 5:30 AM. The store data is the best evidence so far. PS Store India and the Xbox India store data both list the release as 18:30 UTC on 18 November, which is 12:00 AM IST on Thursday 19 November (PS Store India, Xbox India). The Xbox page shows 11/18/2026 because it prints the UTC date. Xbox’s general rule matches: you can play “usually shortly after 12:00 AM local time on the release date” (Xbox Support). Rockstar hasn’t confirmed it, so it’s the store time, not a promise.
The preload start time is less clear. Both PS Store India editions list a “7-Day Pre-load” (PS Store India). Counting seven days back from 12:00 AM IST on 19 November gives about 12:00 AM IST on 12 November. That’s our reading, not an announcement, so check your console from the evening of 11 November.
How to preload GTA 6 on PS5
Official · PlayStation Support India
A PS Store pre-order downloads by itself once preload opens if the console is set up for it. The listing says “Auto-download requires Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In to be enabled on your PS5” (PS Store India). Set these up before 12 November:
PS5: set up the automatic preload
- 1Turn on Stay Connected to the InternetSettings › System › Power Saving › Features Available in Rest Mode
- 2Turn on Auto-DownloadSettings › Saved Data and Game/App Settings › Automatic UpdatesWe’d switch on Auto-Install in Rest Mode too.
- 3Check GTA 6 is set to auto-downloadGame Library › GTA 6 › countdown timerA ticked box means “auto-download is enabled”.
- 4Leave the PS5 in rest mode from 11 NovemberRest mode, not switched off.

Away from home? In the PlayStation App, pair the console (Settings › Pair Console to App), then go to Game Library › Purchased and select Download, with the PS5 in rest mode (PlayStation App support). PS Store charges you at pre-order. You can cancel for a refund any time before release; after release, only if the download hasn’t started, within 14 days of ordering (PlayStation).
How to preload GTA 6 on Xbox Series X and S
Official · Xbox Support
Xbox installs Store games automatically if your console is set as your home console, is on or in Sleep mode, is connected to the Xbox network and has “enough storage space for the installation” (Xbox Support). Xbox hasn’t said exactly how GTA 6’s preload will show up, so check these before 12 November:
Xbox: get the preload going
- 1Turn on remote features and Sleep modeProfile & system › Settings › Devices & connections › Remote featuresXbox: “If the console isn’t set to Sleep mode, remote features won’t work”.
- 2Not there on 12 November? Install it yourselfMy games & apps › See all › Full library › All owned games › Install all
- 3Or start it from your phoneXbox app › GTA 6 › Download to console

Buying the boxed copy in India: a code, not a disc
Official · Rockstar Support
The GTA 6 box has no disc. Rockstar Support says the physical version “will contain a code that can be redeemed for the digital download of the game to support pre-load. A disc will not be included in the box” (Rockstar Support). So you’ll still download the whole game.
Delivery date matters
Preload starts only after the code arrives and you redeem it. A box landing on 18 November means a full download right before launch.
Buy a copy sold in India for PS5
Gizbot reports that PS5 box codes are region locked, with India in the Rest of EMEA region, so an imported code may not work on an Indian account (Gizbot, July 2026). A copy sold in India is the safe pick.
GTA 6 download size: nothing official yet, so clear space
Not announced yet
Nobody official has said. On 26 Oct 2026, the PS Store India data has no size field, and the Xbox India listing has no install package at all (PS Store India, Xbox India). Rockstar hasn’t published one either. Figures online, from 150 GB guesses to a fake 676 GB, are estimates or hoaxes; GTA Intel’s tracker agrees “Rockstar has published no install size” (GTA Intel). We’ll update this when a store lists it.
Here’s what each console starts with. These are box figures; Sony and Microsoft both reserve some for the system, so you’ll see less free:
| Console | Storage on the box | Expand with |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 (current disc model) | 1 TB (Sony) | M.2 SSD |
| PS5 Digital | 825 GB (Sony) | M.2 SSD |
| PS5 Pro | 2 TB (Sony) | M.2 SSD |
| Xbox Series X | 1 TB or 2 TB (Xbox) | Storage Expansion Card |
| Xbox Series S | 512 GB or 1 TB (Xbox) | Storage Expansion Card |
Sony’s M.2 rule is a PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe drive between 250 GB and 8 TB, with 5,500MB/s or faster recommended (PlayStation). A USB drive won’t help on PS5: “PlayStation 5 games can’t be played directly from USB extended storage” (PlayStation). Our best internal SSD for PS5 in India guide lists drives that fit. On Xbox, GTA 6 is listed as Optimised for Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox says those games must sit on internal storage or a Storage Expansion Card, not a USB drive (Xbox Support). Check space under Settings › System › Storage devices (Xbox Support).
How long the GTA 6 download takes on Indian internet
Scenario · Ookla speeds
With no official size, the honest answer is a range. Ookla’s September 2026 figures put India’s median fixed broadband speed at 63.96 Mbps and median mobile speed at 126.92 Mbps (Ookla Speedtest Global Index). Here’s what that means if the game turns out to be 100, 150 or 200 GB:
That’s why preloading matters: a week is plenty even on a slow line. Use a LAN cable if you can, leave the console in rest mode or Sleep overnight, and check your plan’s data limit, especially on mobile data.
GTA 6 preload not starting? Check these
PS5 sign-in settings
PS Store’s own listing says auto-download needs Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In switched on (PS Store India).
Console fully off
Both stores need the console in rest mode (PS5) or Sleep (Xbox) to download in the background. A console that’s switched off at the plug won’t download.
Not enough space
Xbox only installs automatically when there’s enough storage, and a PS5 can’t save a big download to USB. Clear space before 12 November.
Wrong Xbox as home
If you have two consoles, auto install only happens on the one set as your home console. Or start it yourself from Full library.
Still stuck on 12 November? Start it by hand from Game Library (PS5) or Full library (Xbox). If Rockstar posts exact times, we’ll add them here. Our November 2026 game releases list has the rest of the month.
